A number of New Jersey and New York venues will present Bob Dylan tributes in celebration of his 75th birthday.

Bob Dylan turns 75 this month — on May 24, specifically — and there will be all kinds of tribute concerts to mark the occasion, in New Jersey and elsewhere.

May 6 at Roy’s Hall in Blairstown (formerly known as the Historic Blairstown Theater), the group known as The “The Band” Band — which specializes in covers of material by the group, The Band — will present a special show devoted to Dylan’s collaborations with the Band, in honor of Dylan’s birthday.

Mary Lee’s Corvette will perform Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks album in its entirety at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, May 24. (In 2002, the group released a live album on the Bar/None label documenting a show devoted to BOTT at Arlene’s Grocery in New York.)

May 26 at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, Pat Guadagno and Tired Horses will present their annual BobFest concert (see video below), with help from students in the Basie’s educational Rockit program and, in a pre-show terrace concert, Arlan Feiles. The show will focus on Dylan’s landmark Blonde on Blonde album, which is was released 50 years ago this month.

Bottle of Bread will perform Dylan music at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair, May 28. And Dante Hall in Atlantic City will present a Dylan Fest, with acts to be announced, on Aug. 13.

“Bob, Bikes, & Beer,” a tribute at the Old Franklin Schoolhouse in Metuchen, includes n all-Dylan open mic (hosted by Danny Adlerman) on May 20, and a Dylan-themed concert featuring Adlerman, Ben Davis, Renee Maskin, Sharon Goldman and others, May 21.

In New York, City Winery will present a tribute titled “Positively Bob Dylan” on May 22, with John Gorka, Lucy Kaplansky, Willie Nile, Toshi Reagon, The Kennedys, Rich Pagano and others. The Complete Unknowns will present a Dylan birthday tribute at B.B. King’s Blues Club and Grill, on May 30. And the Warwick Valley Winery in Warwick (Orange County), N.Y., will present a tribute weekend, May 28-30, with The Slambovian Circus of Dreams, Hollis Brown, Bill Kirchen, The Kennedys, Professor Louie and the Crowmatix, Rod MacDonald and others.

Another New York venue, The Village Underground, will host a May 24 tribute concert with former Dylan collaborator Rob Stoner serving as bandleader, and Happy Traum, The Kennedys, Rod MacDonald, Terre Roche and George Gerdes among the guests. Fans may also be interested in Greenwich Village tours that visit various Dylan-related sites, Tuesdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m. (rockjunket.com does the 11 a.m. tours). And the HiFi Bar will present a tribute to Blonde on Blonde, June 7, with singers Alexis Thomason, Lizzie Edwards, Mary Spencer Knapp, Pete Cenedella and Ray Kubian, and musicians Dave Foster, Mike Fornatale, Lane Steinberg, Charly C.P Roth, Tom Shad and Tommy DeVito.

Banjo master Tony Trischka will present a show titled “Early Roman Kings: The Music of Bob Dylan” July 8 at Daryl’s House in Pawling, N.Y., and July 10 at Joe’s Pub in Manhattan.

In Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, the Way Station will presents its annual Dylan tribute June 25, with music by The Zimmymen and The Wimmymen.

Meanwhile, Bob Dylan himself will perform at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, N.Y., on July 8; and the Event Center at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City on July 10.

If you know of any other Dylan tributes, in New Jersey or New York, please mention in the comments section below or email to me at njartsdaily@gmail.com, and I will add them.

Hi,

We do an annual Dylan Tribute for 18 years now. We’re running late this year. Here’s the info –

The Way Station
683 Washington Avenue
Brooklyn, NY

June 25, 2016 8 to 10 PM (no cover or minimum)

Here’s info about us –

The Zimmymen and the Wimmymen are a merry band of Dylanologists who congregate annually to celebrate and perform the work of the Bard, Hibbing Minnesota’s own Robert Zimmerman, aka Bob Dylan. The Way Station show will mark the 18th year for these annual get-togethers. The Zimmys will roam through Bob’s extensive catalog, picking tunes from all decades – the 1960’s into the 21st Century. So Zimmy fans should set “their boot heels to be wanderin’” to Prospect Heights on 6/25 for an evening of wall-to-wall Dylan. Bring your thought-dreams for analysis, and we’ll make “attempts to shovel a glimpse into the ditch of what each one means”.
