The current leg of Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band’s tour ends April 14 at the Prudential Center in Newark. And April 15 at the Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, The Boss is scheduled to make a presentation at the inaugural “American Music Honors” show. Proceeds from this event will benefit Monmouth University’s Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music.
Jon Stewart will host, and honorees will include Steven Van Zandt, Darlene Love, Sam Moore and Steve Earle. Southside Johnny, Garry Tallent and Patti Scialfa, along with Springsteen, are scheduled to make presentations. Van Zandt’s Disciples of Soul group, directed by Marc Ribler, will be the house band, with “performances by our honorees and special guests,” according to the Archives’ web site.
“American Music Honors aims to celebrate those artists who have demonstrated artistic excellence, creative integrity, and a longstanding commitment to the value of music in our national consciousness,” said Robert Santelli, founding executive director of the Archives, in a press release. “All of our inaugural honorees are worthy of acknowledgment and appreciation.”
“This event showcases the ‘American Music’ part of our name and mission,” Monmouth University president and Archives board chair Patrick Leahy, in the press release. “By honoring American music greats, such as those named today, and by creating dynamic education and public programs, along with major museum exhibitions, we make valuable contributions to the understanding and importance of American music in our lives.”
There will be a 6-8 p.m. VIP reception at Monmouth University’s Great Hall, prior to the 8:30 p.m. show at the Pollak Theatre.
Tickets go on sale March 13.
