It was not the monumental event that Live Aid was, 22 years earlier. But Live Earth, a series of environmental consciousness-raising concerts at venues throughout the world (including Giants Stadium in East Rutherford) in 2007, was still a mammoth undertaking. In New Jersey alone, performers included The Police, Roger Waters, Bon Jovi, Kanye West, The Dave Matthews Band, The Smashing Pumpkins, Melissa Etheridge, Kelly Clarkson and John Mayer.

Keith Urban — who was the lone country act on the bill, and who performed fairly early in the day — provided one of the event’s highlights with a powerful duet with Alicia Keys (who performed her own set a little later) on the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter,” which took on new meaning, given the event’s cause.

New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday in 2014. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we marked the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, from September 2014 to September 2015 — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. To see the entire list, click here.
