The Pretenders — who will open for Guns N’ Roses at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, Aug. 15 — will return to New Jersey for a show later in the month, at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. It will take place on Aug. 29, with tickets going on sale July 21 at 10 a.m.; visit ticketmaster.com.
They also will perform at The Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan, Aug. 16, with tickets also going on sale July 21 at 10 a.m.
The band will release a new album, Relentless, on Sept. 15. You can listen to its lead single, “Let the Sun Come In,” below.
Singer-songwriter-guitarist Chrissie Hynde said of the album’s title, in a press release, “I enjoy seeing the various meanings and origins of a word. And I liked the definition: ‘showing no abatement of intensity.’ So when it came to an album title, it seemed fitting. You know … to keep doing it. I think anyone in a band is constantly questioning if they should keep going. It starts as a youthful pursuit and eventually, it makes you wonder, why am I doing this? It’s the life of the artist. You never retire. You become relentless.”
