Jeff Tweedy and Thurston Moore — two mesmerizing musicians who have led groundbreaking and influential bands — will discuss their latest books at separate events at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City. Both events will be co-hosted by the Little City Books bookstore in Hoboken and feature live music “to some extent,” said Little City Books co-owner Kate Jacobs.
Tweedy, of the bands Wilco and Uncle Tupelo, will perform and discuss his third book, “World Within a Song: Music That Changed My Life and Life That Changed My Music,” Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. The event is sold out. A pre-signed copy of the book will be included in the ticket price. Seth Meyers of television’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” will interview Tweedy.
The book features 50 songs — by artists such as the Velvet Underground, Mavis Staples and Joni Mitchell — that impacted Tweedy’s life and influenced his music.
“Tweedy is such a song guy — I’m really looking forward to hearing him talk about songs he loves, and why, and when,” said Jacobs.
This event is part of a book tour that starts in Tweedy’s hometown of Chicago and includes a stop at Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, Nov. 6 (New Yorker staff writer Amanda Petrusich will moderate there) and a ticketed, online conversation with actor and comedian Nick Offerman, Nov. 13.

THURSTON MOORE
Best known as a founding member of the rock group Sonic Youth, singer-songwriter and guitarist Moore will discuss his book “Sonic Life: A Memoir” — which takes readers on a journey through his youth in Connecticut to his move to Manhattan’s East Village in 1979 and the formation of his art/punk band in 1981 with Kim Gordon and Lee Renaldo — Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. James Mastro of The Bongos and Ian Hunter’s Rant Band will interview him.
“Sonic Youth started about when I got to New York” in the early ’80s, Jacobs said, adding “there was no one cooler. Thurston’s book really nails the ’80s when art bands were rock bands and vice versa. He’s got a million stories. When James Mastro interviewed Richard Lloyd of Television (at Little City Books), we could have gone all night, and I have a feeling this will be the same.”
Moore will also appear in conversation with rock critic Anthony DeCurtis at The 92nd Street Y in Manhattan, Oct. 25.
