In its eighth installment, Glenn Alexander’s annual series of Pig Gig benefit concerts will feature its most impressive lineup yet, Oct. 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Italian American Hall in Scotch Plains.
Alexander, who has played guitar in Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes since 2010, will perform with his own Shadowland band, featuring a “special guest,” Southside Johnny himself, on harmonica and vocals. Joining them in the lineup will be the Beatles-influenced power-pop band The Weeklings; the roots band The Lonesome Pines; Alexander’s Blue Americana duo with his daughter, singer Oria; singer-songwriter Anthony Tamburro; and, bringing a new element to this music-oriented event, comedian Mike Marino.
Tickets are available via ticketbud.com.
The admission charge is $70, but that includes the all-you-can-eat pig roast (with lots of other food, as well, and drinks, included in the price) in addition to the six hours of music. There will also be a silent auction. All proceeds will go to the Fibrolamellar Cancer Foundation in honor of Alexander’s nephew Jay Alexander, who died of the disease in 2011.
Alexander calls it a “day of love, laughter, awesome food, drink and entertainment to raise money to fund research and ultimately save someone’s life in honor of Jay.”
