Tommy Byrne’s “Coal for Christmas” features a guest appearance by Gary U.S. Bonds.

Gary U.S. Bonds makes a guest appearance on a new, high-energy, Chuck Berry-esque holiday song, “Coal for Christmas,” by Woodbridge Township’s Tommy Byrne. You can listen to it below, and also watch a video (Bonds doesn’t appear in the video, though his voice can be heard at the end).

Other contributors to the single include Jersey rock scene veterans such as PK Lavengood on guitar; Joe Bellia on percussion; and Layonne Holmes, Eddie Testa and JoBonanno on backing vocals.

Byrne — whose previous releases include the pandemic-set holiday song “Christmas Means More This Year” and the autism awareness anthem, “Unstoppable” — will donate a portion of the proceeds to Steven Van Zandt’s TeachRock organization. And he will perform the song live for the first time at the “A Very Jersey Christmas” show at The Headliner in Neptune, Dec. 21; other performers will include Pat Roddy, JoBonanno, Trish Mata and Paul Anthony (of Big Bang Baby), Eddie Testa and Ray Andersen.

Here is the recording, with the video below it. It can also be streamed or downloaded at tommybyrnemusic.bandcamp.com/track/coal-for-christmas.
