PETE TOWNSHEND

Bruce Springsteen has signed on to present an award to Pete Townshend at a May 28 event at the Best Buy Theater in New York honoring the Who singer-songwriter-guitarist and Bill Curbishley, The Who’s longtime manager.

The event is a benefit for the MusiCares MAP Fund, which provides addiction recovery treatment for musicians and others in the music industry. Springsteen will present Townshend with the organization’s Stevie Ray Vaughan Award, in honor of Townshend’s support. Curbishley will receive the MusiCares From the Heart Award.

Townshend will perform with The Who’s backing band, but his longtime Who partner, Roger Daltrey, is not scheduled to be there. Billy Idol, Joan Jett and Foreigner’s Mick Jones will also perform.

Springsteen is not scheduled to perform, though there are going to be a lot of guitars on that stage, so you never know.

There will also be a gala dinner the concert. For information about that, visit musicares.org.
