MARISSA NADLER

As part of the New Jersey International Film Festival, singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler, whose atmospheric music has been described as “dream folk,” will perform at Voorhees Hall at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, June 15 at 7 p.m. For information, visit njfilmfest.com.

“We are starting up a new concert series as part of our film festivals with the hope of reawakening the dormant New Brunswick music scene,” said Albert G. Nigrin, a Rutgers professor who is also the festival’s executive director and curator. “Many of these shows will have a visual component.”

The “pilot program” in the series was a multimedia show by guitarist Tim Motzer in September, Nigrin said.

Nigrin shared the following message about the New Brunswick show from Nadler (a Massachusetts native who is now based in Nashville) on his Facebook page: “My record July just turned 10 (and my debut album Ballads of Living and Dying turns 20 years old this year) so I’ll be playing songs from July for sure, as well as some truly deep cuts. Also, there will be ambient explorations, songs from my new records like Path of the Clouds (and Wrath), For My Crimes, Strangers, and a few brand-new songs from my upcoming in the works album as well! I’m truly looking forward to making some dreamy nights of music for you.”

Wrath refers to The Wrath of the Clouds, Nadler’s 2022 EP, which includes three original songs written in the same period as the songs on her 2021 album The Path of the Clouds, as well as covers of The Alessi Brothers’ “Seabird” and “Saunder’s Ferry Lane” (from Sammi Smith’s 1970 album Help Me Make It Through the Night).

In addition to her music, Nadler has published two books of photography, with a third, “No Show,” due out July 1. For information about her, visit marissanadler.com.

The New Jersey International Film Festival is an annual event that includes spring, summer and fall segments, with in-person screenings as well as online availability.
