Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, on their Howard 101 special.

Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats have covered Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” before. But their new version — professionally shot in the “Howard Stern Show” studio at SiriusXM satellite radio — hits you like a jolt of energy, and really should be seen by every Boss fan. You can watch it below.

The performance was part of a 16-minute special that the band made for Stern’s Howard 101 channel. The special also included performances of their songs “Heartless,” “Get Used to the Night” and “David and Goliath,” with introductions by Rateliff.

Before “Dancing in the Dark,” Rateliff talked about the time that he and the band met Springsteen backstage at one of Springsteen’s Broadway shows. “He said, ‘You guys look like a band. You look like a family,’ ” Rateliff said.

Rateliff also said, “We know Howard’s a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen. We are as well.” And, regarding “Dancing in the Dark” itself: “We first started doing this number when we started playing Asbury Park. It seemed appropriate. We always have a few Bruce songs in our repertoire. But this is one of our faves.”

The band currently does not have any New Jersey shows scheduled but will perform with My Morning Jacket at The TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia, Sept. 26; and will headline at Madison Square Garden in New York, March 27. For more on the band, visit nathanielrateliff.com.
