Every year, the McDonald’s Gospelfest brings an abundant array of gospel talent to the Prudential Center in Newark. This year’s event, subtitled “When the Choir Meets the Quartet” and featuring Bishop Hezekiah Walker, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Faith Evans and countless others, takes place Saturday; it will begin at 3 p.m. and end late in the evening. For ticket information, visit PruCenter.com.
I’ve been to quite a few of these shows and know they offer dynamic performances for hours on end.
Below is just one of the great Gospelfest performances from throughout the years: “More Abundantly,” by the Quebec Celebration Gospel Choir, in 2010.
The words are a little hard to understand, but this will give you a good idea of what Gospelfest is all about.
New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday in 2014. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we marked the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, from September 2014 to September 2015 — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. To see the entire list, click here.
