In November 1994, at the height of her popularity, Whitney Houston presented three concerts in South Africa to honor Nelson Mandela, who was elected President there earlier that year. The second show, in Johannesburg, was shown on HBO at the time, and released on VHS. But the first show, at Kings Park Stadium in Durban, will come out for the first time on CD and on vinyl, and be available digitally, on Nov. 8.
The album’s title will be The Concert for a New South Africa (Durban). And a film version (see trailer below) will be shown in theaters in cities all over the world, including some in New Jersey, Oct. 23 and 27.
For a list of theaters that will show the film, visit whitneysouthafrica.com.
The CD will include both concert and studio versions of “Love Is,” a song that was written by Carvin Winans of the gospel quartet The Winans, and not previously available on any Houston album.
