DAVID SANCIOUS

Long Branch native and original E Street Band member David Sancious has announced an unusual release strategy for his next album, The Ghost of Jim Crow. According to the video message that you can watch below, he is going to put out each song individually, with the first one, a protest song about police brutality and other modern injustices titled “Why Must It Be So,” coming out on Oct. 22.

The song “deals with some issues that a lot of people in our society are dealing with right now, and if you listen carefully, and watch closely, you may find that you’re one of those people,” he says. You can watch an excerpt from the video below, as well.

Sancious says he will be offering updates on the project at his website, therealdavidsancious.com.

In addition to playing keyboards in the first version of the E Street Band, and on Bruce Springsteen’s first three albums, Sancious has toured and recorded with his own jazz-fusion group Tone and performed with artists such as Peter Gabriel, Sting, Eric Clapton, Yes frontman Jon Anderson, and Seal. He has continued to work with Springsteen, occasionally, as well, and contributed to Springsteen’s albums Human Touch and Western Stars.
