David Hyde Pierce and Debra Monk will co-star in a one-night-only presentation of “Love Letters” at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, in a fundraiser for the theater. The theater’s artistic director, David Saint, will direct the production, which takes place June 3.
Tickets are $50, with $100 tickets including a post-performance reception with the artists. Visit gsponline.org.
“We loved having David here when he directed ‘It Shoulda Been You’ (which premiered at the Playhouse prior to its current Broadway run), and I am thrilled and grateful he is returning for this very special performance,” said Saint, in a press release. “I have long wanted to have Debra at George Street, and I am thrilled she will be joining us.”
The play, written by A.R. Gurney, is about two longtime friends who communicate with each other, and tell the stories of their lives, through letters.
Pierce, best known as one of the stars of television’s “Frasier,” and Monk, who played Katie Sipowicz on “NYPD Blue,” both belong to the small group of actors who have won both Tonys and Emmys. Pierce won his Tony for “Curtains,” which co-starred Monk; Monk won hers for “Redwood Curtain.”
