One of New Jersey’s busiest musicians, Anthony D’Amato, will be even busier than usual in 2025, since he is becoming the producing artistic director of The Asbury Park Theater Company.
D’Amato, who performs his music under the name Remember Jones, will replace the theater company’s current producing artistic director, William Whitefield, who has been with it since its formation in 2019 and will remain on the board.
D’Amato has extensive experience as a producer, director and actor in theatrical productions. For instance, he co-produced “Evita” at The Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal this summer, and co-starred as Che.
Asbury Park theater Company has also announced that it will present the musical “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” at The Bell Theater at Bell Works in Holmdel, June 13-29. The full season, including collaborations with other venues and companies, will be announced at a later date.
In a press release, D’Amato said: “Asbury Park is so much more than just its location; it’s a spirit, it’s a brand, it’s an energy. While there is currently no functioning, proscenium theater stage in town, we have always had a unique, creative community that’s been acknowledged around the world. We must continue to embrace and inspire those talents, collaborate with those in our county and state, and keep Asbury Park as a recognizable sanctuary for art and artists of all ages and backgrounds.”
