You can trace the genre called stoner-rock — an amalgamation of heavy metal and psychedelic-rock — back to the ’60s, but it really flourished in the ’90s, and one of its leading bands was Red Bank’s Monster Magnet, who first gained widespread attention with “Negasonic Teenage Warhead,” from its 1995 album, Dopes to Infinity.

Twenty years later, it still packs an undeniable punch, though every time I hear it, I can’t help thinking of Cream’s “Tales of Brave Ulysses,” to which it bears a striking melodic similarity.
