In its third annual American Music Honors show, The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University in West Long Branch will honor Smokey Robinson, John Fogerty, Emmylou Harris, Tom Morello and Joe Ely.
Award presenters include Springsteen (Fogerty and Ely), Stevie Van Zandt (Robinson), Patti Scialfa (Harris) and Nils Lofgren (Morello).
The event will be hosted by Brian Williams and take place on April 26 at the university’s Pollak Theatre, with Stevie Van Zandt’s Disciples of Soul serving as the house band.
Tickets will go on sale on March 25. For information, visit springsteenarchives.org.
“This year’s honorees represent a cross-section of American music,” said Robert Santelli, the center’s founding executive director, in a press release. “Rock, Americana, soul, and country are all represented by some of the most important artists from each of the genres. We are most excited to honor them and welcome them into the American Music Center family.”
In the first American Music Honors show, in April 2023, Van Zandt, Darlene Love, Sam Moore and Steve Earle were honored, with Springsteen (virtually, because he was suffering from COVID), Southside Johnny and Garry Tallent giving the induction speeches, and Jon Stewart hosting. All the inductees as well as Southside Johnny also performed.
At the second show, in April 2024, the honorees were John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples and Dion DiMucci, with Springsteen, Van Zandt, Love and Jon Landau giving the speeches, and Williams hosting. All the inductees as well as Springsteen, Van Zandt and Love also performed.
According to the Archives’ website, the awards show “aims to celebrate those artists who have demonstrated artistic excellence, creative integrity, and a longstanding commitment to the value of music in both shaping and reflecting American life.”
