The fourth annual Immersive Residency program at The John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University began in the fall, and will continue this year with events featuring the chamber ensemble The Westerlies (Feb. 3-8), jazz guitarist and composer Pat Metheny (Feb. 17-19), opera mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges (March 3 and 5), and composer and conductor Jake Runstead (April 24-26).
The series is co-presented with The Kaufman Music Center in New York and, according to the Montclair State website, “Each residency will contribute to an ongoing exploration of the ever-changing landscape of music today, introducing students to a future that will be, at times, less traditional.”
Each residency will also include a combination of events that can be attended only by students, and others to which the general public are invited.
Free (but reservations required), open-to-the-public events will include a concert by The Westerlies at Montclair State’s Leshowitz Recital Hall, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m., and one by Metheny and drummer Billy Hart at Leshowitz Recital Hall, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m.
