Darlene Love will present a sold-out “CD Release Event” for her upcoming album, Introducing Darlene Love, at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, Sept. 12. And there is a strong Asbury Park theme to her video for the album’s first single, the Elvis Costello-written “Forbidden Nights.” Love drives through the streets of town in a ’61 Cadillac, with three passengers in the back seat, singing. She picks up two more passengers: Joan Jett (whose “Little Liar” she sings on the album) and a surfboard-toting Paul Shaffer. They park on the boardwalk on the way to a beach concert, at which Love sings the song; others making cameos in the clip include Costello, Steven Van Zandt (who produced the album and wrote three songs on it), Bruce Springsteen (who wrote two songs on it), David Letterman and Bill Murray. Check it out below.
Introducing Darlene Love will be released on Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool label, with distribution by Columbia, on Sept. 18.
While the Sept. 12 event is sold out, NJArts.net has a pair of tickets that it will give out, for free, via a contest. To have a chance at winning, you have to correctly guess the 350th song in the site’s 350 Jersey Songs series. The winner will be announced Sept. 8, after the 350th song is posted.
