Singer-songwriter Jill Sobule had a hit with a song called “I Kissed a Girl” more than a decade before Katy Perry did. She also probably hates the fact that I just mentioned that, since she’s written so many other great songs before and after that and, I’m sure, has no interest in being a mere footnote.
Sobule, who is one of the most engaging performers on the singer-songwriter circuit, will present an unusually intimate show Thursday night in the home studio of the Montclair band The Porchistas. The Porchistas’ Alan Smith and Adam Falzer will also perform a short set.
This show also ushers in a very busy time for The Porchistas themselves. They’re playing at Montclair Center Stage on Saturday and the Hoboken Fall Arts and Music Festival on Sunday and have several shows booked for October, including a Halloween night concert at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair.
