Concert promoter John Scher will talk about his career at Where Music Lives in Asbury Park, Nov. 14.

John Scher will speak about his work as a concert promoter in the ’70s and ’80s at Where Music Lives in Asbury Park, Nov. 14, to help kick off the venue’s “John Scher: From the Boardwalk to the Capitol” exhibit. I will be the moderator, and disc jockeys Dan Neer and Jim Monaghan — both formerly of WNEW-FM and now at Sirius XM satellite radio and WDHA-FM, respectively — will be among the panelists sharing memories.

The talk will focus on Scher’s work at Convention Hall in Asbury Park and the Capitol Theatre in Passaic. Among the topics bound to come up are his many shows with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band and Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, early in both those groups’ careers.

Tickets go on sale today at 1 p.m., with proceeds benefiting the Asbury Park Music Foundation.

The exhibit will run in the Where Music Lives gallery from Nov. 14 to Dec. 27. Among the items to be shown are photographs and artwork by Bob Leafe, David McGough, Moyssi, Kevin Papa, Ebet Roberts and Joe Streno.

Scher, whose career dates back to the late ’60s, still promotes shows in New Jersey and New York through his company, Metropolitan Entertainment.

The gallery’s current exhibit, devoted to the career of Steven Van Zandt, is on display through Nov. 1.
