Southside Johnny announced from the stage of the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, during his New Year’s Eve concert, that he and his Asbury Jukes will present two “Soultime! Dance Party” concerts at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, on Feb. 26 and 27. Tickets go on sale Jan. 1 at 10 a.m.; visit stoneponyonline.com.
In a mid-December NJArts.net interview, he said of the Pony shows: “In February, we’re going to do two soul nights. We’ve got a whole list of traditional soul songs, and some pretty obscure things. The horns already have charts for a lot of them, because we’ve done them over the years. But we’re going to try to add some new things, and some of our stuff from the new album, and all of the soul-ish kind of stuff that we had in the Jukes’ repertoire. So it will focused on soul music this time.”
In August, Southside released a soul-oriented album, Soultime! In February 2015, he also presented two special shows at the Pony, though those consisted of Bruce Springsteen covers and rarities, respectively.
Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door, and $75 for two-day passes.
