Not ready to make nice with Donald Trump, The Dixie Chicks are poking fun at the presumptive Republican presidential nominee by including an image of him with devil’s horns and a goofy mustache among the visuals of their current tour. It looms behind them during their performance of “Goodbye Earl,” their 2000 hit about taking revenge on an abusive husband.
The U.S. leg of the group’s DCX MMXVI World Tour — which marks the first time they are touring extensively in the U.S. in 10 years — began June 1 in Cincinnati, and comes to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, June 8; Madison Square Garden in New York, June 13; and the BB&T Pavilion in Camden, June 18.
Stubbornly outspoken Dixie Chick Natalie Maines tweeted sarcastically, in January, “As long as Donald Trump’s decisions for America are as solid as his decision about his hair, we’re in good shape.”
She also tweeted that month, “Just so you know….I’m ashamed Ted Cruz is from America;).” The comment was reminiscent of her controversial 2003 statement at a British concert that “We’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas,” made in protest of then-President Bush’s decision to invade Iraq.
