Every Thursday in August, musicians will perform in free shows outside the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, as part of Mayor Samson Steinman’s Summer Concert Series.
The Company Men, a vocal group that covers hits by everyone from The Temptations to Meghan Trainor, will perform first, on Aug. 4, with Paris Williams opening.
The Family Stone (featuring original members Greg Errico and Jerry Martini) will perform Sly and the Family Stone hits such as “Everyday People” and “Dance to the Music” on Aug. 11, in a double bill with the Woodstock tribute band, Peace of Woodstock.
Songwriter Steve Dorff, whose credits include “Every Which Way But Loose,
“Through the Years” and “I Just Fall in Love Again,” will be joined by singers Stacy Francis and Rachel Potter (both finalists on TV’s “The X Factor”) and Becky Pine on Aug. 18.
10,000 Maniacs — featuring ’80s members Dennis Drew (keyboards), Steve Gustafson (bass) and Jerry Augustyniak (drums), along with singer Mary Ramsey and guitarist Jeff Erickson — and New Jersey’s own The Smithereens will close the series with an Aug. 25 double bill.
Shows will begin at 7:30 p.m., and will move inside the arts center in the event of bad weather.
