STORMIN’ NORMAN SELDIN

“I’m a Jersey boy with his heart down in New Orleans,” sings Stormin’ Norman Seldin in “Jersey Boy,” which shows the influence of New Orleans R&B on his music (listen below). But Seldin’s deeper roots are in the Asbury Park music scene: The singer-songwriter-pianist one of the architects of the blend of rock and R&B that has made the city world-renown from the ’70s on. And he can also boast of being Clarence Clemons’ boss before The Boss came into the picture: The saxophonist played in Seldin’s band, the Joyful Noyze, before his days in The E Street Band.

Seldin, a Red Bank native, still performs often at Shore nightclubs and restaurants. To keep up with his latest activities, click here.

Seldin first released “Jersey Boy” on House Special, his 2000 album with the band Steel Breeze, and it’s also on Asbury Park: Then and Now, his highly entertaining 2008 two-CD compilation, which features contributions from five E Streeters, Southside Johnny and other Shore luminaries.

New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday in 2014. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we marked the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, from September 2014 to September 2015 — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. To see the entire list, click here.
