Walt Whitman, who lived for some of his life in Camden, is widely regarded as one of the greatest poets the United States has produced. And many musicians have put his words to music, including Moon Trent, a singer-songwriter from Merced, Calif., who included a rock version of Whitman’s “We Two Boys” on his 2008 EP, Love Bytes.

The full name of the poem, which is part of Whitman’s “Leaves of Grass” collection, is “We Two Boys Together Clinging,” and Moon Trent doesn’t change a word.

Check it what he did with the poem, below.

New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday in 2014. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we marked the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, from September 2014 to September 2015 — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. To see the entire list, click here.
