CHITA RIVERA

Broadway legend Chita Rivera, a two-time Tony winner and 10-time nominee (she shares the record with the late Julie Harris), will discuss her amazing career with Princeton University professor John Doyle at the university’s James M. Stewart ‘32 Theater, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.

The event, organized in conjunction with Doyle’s fall course, “Luminaries of the American Musical Theater,” is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Visit luminaries-chita-rivera.eventbrite.com.

Doyle is a Broadway director (“Sweeney Todd,” “Company”) in addition to being a professor. His course focuses on the careers of Michael Bennett, Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb, Harold Prince, Jerome Robbins and Stephen Sondheim. Rivera — who became a star more than 50 years ago in plays such as “West Side Story and “Bye Bye Birdie” and is still performing at the age of 83 — has worked extensively with several of them.

Doyle teaches the course as part of the Program in Musical Theater at Princeton’s Lewis Center for the Arts.
