King Crimson to perform at Count Basie Theatre

The progressive-rock group King Crimson will bring a rare U.S. tour to New Jersey this summer.

Tickets for the groundbreaking band’s July 9 concert at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank will go on sale Feb. 17 at noon. They are priced from $50 to $175; visit countbasietheatre.org.

(March 13 update: A July 10 show has been added as well, and is currently on sale.)

The band will include guitarist Robert Fripp, singer-guitarist Jakko Jakszyk, bassist Tony Levin, saxophonist Mel Collins, drummers Pat Mastelotto and Gavin Harrison, and drummer-keyboardists Bill Rieflin and Jeremy Stacey. This is an eight-piece group, though Fripp, the group’s uncontested leaders since its early days (and the only musician to be in all lineups), is calling it a double quartet rather than an octet.

King Crimson, whose roots go back to the progressive-rock movement of the late ’60s and ’70s, has not released an album since 2003’s The Power to Believe, though it is planning to release a 12-inch single in April.
