Legendary musicians such as Southside Johnny, David Sancious and Garry Tallent appear in a new trailer for the upcoming documentary about Asbury Park and its music scene, “Just Before the Dawn.” You can watch it below.
Southside Johnny talks, in the trailer, about the legendary late ’60s/early ’70s Asbury Park club, the Upstage. “I learned almost everything I know about performing and singing from those three years — two and a half years — at Upstage,” he says. “Because it was like our college.”
According to the Asbury Park Press, the documentary will be premiere at the Asbury Park Music and Film Festival on April 21, at Asbury Park’s Paramount Theatre, and a jam session featuring three former E Street Band members (Sancious, Vini Lopez and Ernest “Boom” Carter), guitarist Sonny Kenn, the Asbury Jukes’ Jeff Kazee and others will follow. The film’s director, Tom Jones, is an APMFF board member.

Looks decent- but don’t understand the song selection for trailer-and if there’s no Bruce interview, then it’s not legit. BS is Asbury Park!
Johnny Cash used to live in Asbury Park: http://blog.nj.com/ledgerentertainment/2007/08/in_asbury_park_he_walked_the_l.html
In regard to the Bruce interview: I’m sure they tried, but if Bruce didn’t want to do it, I don’t think it’s fair to expect them to then NOT do the documentary.
