In 1994, Kevin Smith became an indie-film star by directing, writing, co-producing and co-starring in “Clerks,” a low-budget movie set in a Monmouth County convenience store.
“Shooting Clerks” — a drama, not a documentary, about the making of the movie — has three New Jersey screenings scheduled. (watch trailer below)
This film, which officially debuted last year, was directed by the Scottish filmmaker Christopher Downie, and shot in Scotland, Florida and New Jersey. In October, it won the Indie Spirit Award at the Orlando Film Festival.
“Shooting Clerks” will be shown at Atlantic Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m., with Smith, actors Jason Mewes and Brian O’Halloran and others involved in the making of the original movie in attendance.
This screening is sold out. But there will also be a screening at the Brightside Tavern in Jersey City, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. And as part of the Monmouth Film Festival, the film will be shown Aug. 13 at 5:15 p.m. at the Two River Theater in Red Bank.
