Director Damien Chazelle, who based his critically acclaimed film “Whiplash,” in part, on his experiences playing drums with the Princeton High School studio jazz band, will donate proceeds from a Dec. 17 “Whiplash” event in Princeton to the school’s music program.
At the event — which was organized by Chazelle’s mother, Celia Chazelle — “Whiplash” will be screened at 6 p.m. at Princeton Garden Theatre, at 160 Nassau St., with a live introduction by Kam Williams, who reviews movies for Princeton’s Town Topics newspaper. Following the screening, there will then be a reception, from 8:15 to 10 p.m., at Princeton High School, 151 Moore St., with a performance by the Princeton Studio Band and a live video question-and-answer session with Chazelle, moderated by Williams.
Tickets are $30 ($15 for students) for the film and reception, $20 ($5 for students) for the reception only.
“Whiplash,” which stars Miles Teller as a young drummer and J.K. Simmons as his intense teacher, has won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Drama at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, among other honors.
