‘Jersey Style,’ Christine Martucci

I reached No. 350 in the 350 Jersey Songs series nearly two years ago. And Christine Martucci is on the list already, with her “Ocean Avenue.” But I am adding, as a bonus selection, a song that she released this summer, but that would have been an obvious choice if it had been around two years ago: “Jersey Style.”

Co-written by Cheryl DaVeiga and Anthony Krizan — and featuring Krizan on guitars and drums, Rob Clores on keyboards and Benjamin Clapp and Christopher Fitzgerald on horns — “Jersey Style” is a love letter to the Jersey shore and, more specifically, Jersey shore rock.

This heartfelt anthem doesn’t just borrow a riff from Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run” but also includes a lyrical nod to to the magnetic draw of “Southside Johnny playing at the Pony.”

“New York, you got a lot going for you/I kind of like the Hard Rock or catching a Broadway show/But there’s a spirit calling and it lives across another bridge/That’s where I’m going,” sings Martucci.

Martucci, an army veteran, includes a message about the VetRest organization — which helps those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder — at the end of the video, below.
