Musicians to pay tribute to Tom Petty at NJ Hungerthon event

by JAY LUSTIG

Jeffrey Gaines will be among the artists paying tribute to Tom Petty in Park Ridge, Nov. 19.

As part of the annual WhyHunger Hungerthon fundraising campaign, the Acoustic Cafe Music Series in Park Ridge will host a Nov. 19 benefit concert that will also serve as a tribute to the late Tom Petty. Performers will include Jeffrey Gaines, Richard Barone, Joe D’Urso (with Seth Saltzman), Don DiLego, Isabella Rose, Christopher Brown (with Peter Calo), Bobby Mahoney and Annalyse & Ryan.

The event will take place at Park Ridge’s Our Lady of Mercy Academy, at 25 Fremont Road, and start at 4:30 p.m. For information, visit cafeacoustic.org.

Originally known as World Hunger Year, WhyHunger was co-founded by Harry Chapin and WhyHunger’s current executive director, Bill Ayres, in 1975.

Last year’s Hungerthon raised more than $1.1 million to fight hunger, through various events and auctions.

Here is a video of Gaines singing lead, earlier this month, on a cover of Petty’s “The Waiting” with David Uosikkinen’s group In the Pocket. (Uosikkinen is best known as the drummer of The Hooters.)
