Richie “LaBamba” Rosenberg will perform at the Morristown Jazz and Blues Festival, this year.
Now that he is a member of the “Conan” talk show’s house band, and that show tapes in Burbank, Calif., Richie “LaBamba” Rosenberg doesn’t perform in New Jersey very often. But he and his energetic rock/blues/R&B group, The Hubcaps, will be among the performers at the eighth annual Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival, a free, outdoor event taking place on the Morristown Green on Aug. 18.
The trombonist is a former mainstay of Southside Johnny’s Asbury Jukes, and also has bascked New Jersey luminaries such as Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Steven Van Zandt. The Hubcaps performed frequently at New Jersey clubs in the ’80s.
In 1993, LaBamba became an original member of Conan O’Brien’s first house band, The Max Weinberg 7, which is now known as Jimmy Vivino & the Basic Cable Band but still features most of its original members. One of them, trumpeter and singer Mark Pender, will also be performing with the Hubcaps in Morristown.
LaBamba & the Hubcaps will actually be billed third at the festival, and perform at 4 p.m. Other performers will include bluesmen Davy Knowles and Bernard Allison, at 8 and 6 p.m., respectively; jazz trumpeter and singer Bria Skonberg, at 2 p.m.; and the 13-piece United States Air Force Jazz Ensemble, which will perform big-band standards at noon.
