Snoop Dogg, who is celebrating the 25th anniversary of his hit debut album Doggystyle this year, will perform at Exchange Place Plaza in Jersey City, July 4, at a free festival being presented in conjunction with the city’s annual fireworks display.
The fifth annual Freedom & Fireworks Festival will run from noon to 10 p.m., and also feature carnival rides, a food tent and more than 30 food trucks, three beer gardens, a “Kids Zone” and more.

The web site promises a “full day” of music but only Snoop Dogg is confirmed so far.
In a mass email, mayor Steven Fulop said the city is “seriously raising the bar” for the annual event, with the Snoop Dogg booking. “Each year we strive to throw a bigger, better Independence Day celebration, with higher profile performers, larger carnival rides, more food trucks, expanded beer gardens, and cooler day-long entertainment for the whole family,” he wrote.
Kool & the Gang was booked to headline the event last year.
