THE FEELIES

In conjunction with the Oct. 10 opening of an exhibition devoted to The Velvet Underground in New York, The Feelies will play a set of Velvet Underground material, as well as a set of originals, at White Eagle Hall in Jersey City, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. Tickets, priced at $25-$30, go on sale Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. via ticketfly.com.

The Feelies have opened shows for Lou Reed, and the Reed-led Velvet Underground was perhaps their major musical influence. “We were influenced by Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground and the MC5,” The Feelies’ Glenn Mercer told The Bergen Record/NorthJersey.com in 2016. “It was very guitar-heavy with minimalist song structures.”

The Feelies have covered many Velvet Underground songs, including “What Goes On,” “White Light/White Heat,” “I Can’t Stand It,” “Who Loves the Sun” and “We’re Gonna Have a Real Good Time Together,” over the years.

Mercer will also perform with his own band at a benefit for NJArts.net at Tierney’s Tavern in Montclair, Oct. 6. The show will also feature Richard Barone and Jim Mastro, and Elk City.
