This painting by Richard Lloyd will be shown at The Guitar Bar in Hoboken.

Many great musicians also experience the world visually and turn to painting as a form of expression. Tony Bennett, Joseph Arthur and David Bowie, to name a few. Joni Mitchell, one of the greatest songwriters ever, was drawn to painting and expressed her frustration with music on her 1974 live album, Miles of Aisles, saying that while music fans want to hear their favorite songs, “A painter does a painting, and he paints it, and that’s it … nobody ever said to Van Gogh, ‘Paint a Starry Night again, man!’ ”

A painting by Tim Foljahn.

From Nov. 2 to 4, The Guitar Bar at 160 First St. in Hoboken will offer you the chance to view paintings of rock musicians Richard Lloyd, Steve Wynn and Tim Foljahn. The exhibition will be part of the Hoboken Art + Studio Tour, a citywide walking tour of galleries, art studios and group exhibitions that features more than 100 artists, photographers, musicians and spoken word performers.

Lloyd is a founding member of the band Television and the author of the memoir, “Everything Is Combustible: Television, CBGB’s and Five Decades of Rock and Roll.” Steve Wynn is the frontman of The Dream Syndicate and a member of the The Baseball Project. Foljahn is a member of Two Dollar Guitar and has also worked with Half Japanese, Cat Power, Thurston Moore and Townes Van Zandt.

On Nov. 2, Guitar Bar hosts its pre-Art Tour party from 6 to 8 p.m. with a preview of the collection, and with Foljahn present at the wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. The collection can also be seen Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Nov. 4 from noon to 5 p.m.

Guitar Bar was opened in 1996 by James Mastro (of The Bongos and Ian Hunter’s band) and services musicians with instruments, repairs and instruction. Mastro indicated that this is the first time Guitar Bar will be joining the art tour, noting that Lloyd, Wynn and Foljahn are “all friends, and we thought it would be a nice tie-in for us, being that they’re also musicians.”
