The Exit 0 Jazz Festival, now in its seventh year, has put together its most impressive lineup yet, with 27 acts playing about 70 sets at theaters, bars and restaurants throughout Cape May, Nov. 9-11. Part of the increase is due to the addition of a new stage in a tent on Carpenters Lane, created in partnership with Fins Bar & Grille and The Ugly Mug.
Marcus Miller and Dianne Reeves — the world’s greatest living jazz singer, in my opinion — will co-headline with concerts at the Schmidtchen Theater at Lower Cape May Regional High School, Nov. 9 and 10, respectively (free shuttle service is offered from downtown Cape May). And a pre-festival concert, featuring Kermit Ruffins & the Barbecue Swingers, will take place at Cape May Convention Hall, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., as a benefit for Music Connects Cape May, the festival’s educational outreach arm.
As you can tell from the videos below, the festival’s definition of “jazz” is a very broad one; bands that draw heavily from soul, R&B, rock, pop, Latin and other forms of music are featured. There is also, as is customary for this festival, a strong New Orleans/Louisiana flavor to much of the music.
Here is the schedule, as well as videos for all of the acts.
