Montclair’s Outpost in the Burbs has booked Richard Barone’s theme show, “Music + Revolution: Greenwich Village in the 1960s,” for March 29. Joining him will be Eric Andersen, The Kennedys, Glenn Mercer, Tammy Faye Starlite, Steve Addabbo and possibly others. (Dec. 19 Update: Jeffrey Gaines has been added to the bill as well.)
The show, presented previously at Central Park SummerStage, Joe’s Pub and other venues, explores the Village’s interwoven pop, rock and folk scenes of the ’60s via covers of songs from that era or, with artists such as Andersen (who was active there, at that time), performances of his own songs.
Barone released a guest-filled album, Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village in the 1960s, in 2016, and teaches a course on the subject at The New School in New York.
This is one of six shows currently scheduled for the Outpost in 2019. The others are:
Jan. 11: “Songwriters Stripped,” a Light of Day Foundation benefit with Willie Nile, James Maddock, Williams Honor, Danielia Cotton, Joe D’Urso, Jon Caspi, Christine Martucci, Laura Crisci and Rick Winowski.
Jan. 25: Lissie (solo acoustic)
Feb. 8: Marcia Ball
Feb. 22: David Bromberg Quintet, The TriSonics
March 8: NRBQ
All six shows will take place at the First Congregational Church.
Tickets to “Greenwich Village in the 1960s” and NRBQ go on sale Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. The four other shows are currently on sale. Visit outpostintheburbs.org.
