The one thing that unites New Jerseyans, perhaps more than any other thing, is our frustration with getting around by car: The traffic, the potholes, the strange ways that the state’s highways are laid out. Jason Didner focused on that aspect of living in the Garden State (and specifically, the insanity of jughandles) in his song, “You Can’t Get There From Here in Jersey,” and subsequently got some play on the NPR program, “Car Talk.”

“You can’t get there from here in Jersey/You’re always on the wrong side of the road/You can’t get there from here in Jersey/I got a case of jughandle turnaround overload,” Didner sings.

Below is a video of him performing the song, with John Raido on harmonica and backing vocals.

Didner, who lives in Montclair, is best known as the leader of the children’s band, Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam.

New Jersey celebrated its 350th birthday in 2014. And in the 350 Jersey Songs series, we marked the occasion by posting 350 songs — one a day, from September 2014 to September 2015 — that have something to do with the state, its musical history, or both. To see the entire list, click here.
