Richard Thompson will perform a solo acoustic concert at the Outpost in the Burbs in 8 p.m. May 11, with a small number of VIP tickets also including a screening of “A Winding Road: A Ramble With Richard Thompson,” at 5 p.m. that day. The screening will be at Montclair Film’s Cinema 505, which is within walking distance of the Outpost.
The theater is at 505 Bloomfield Ave., and the concert will be at the First Congregational Church at 40 S. Fullerton Ave.
Concert-only tickets are $45 in advance, $50 day of show. Tickets that include admission to the screening as well as a reserved seat in the first four rows for the concert are $120. Visit outpostintheburbs.org.
The film is described on its Facebook page (facebook.com/RichardThompsonFilm) as “an independent experimental documentary, a kaleidoscopic look at a hard working and multi faceted touring musician through cascading visual and sonic experiences while on the road with him and his band in 2015.” I assume its title was inspired by Thompson’s song, “She Could Never Resist a Winding Road” (from his 2015 album, Still).
