A new version of a documentary about Asbury Park’s history and its rock scene will screen internationally in May after debuting at the Asbury Park Music and Film Festival in April.
The film is titled “Asbury Park: Riot, Redemption, Rock ‘n Roll.” An earlier version, titled “Just Before the Dawn: Riot, Redemption, Rock ‘n Roll,” screened at Asbury Park’s Paramount Theatre at the Asbury Park Music and Film Festival in 2017, and was followed by an all-star jam featuring Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Steven Van Zandt, David Sancious, Vini “Mad Dog” Lopez and others. The new version of the film features added Springsteen interview footage as well as footage from the 2017 jam session.
The Asbury Park Music and Film Festival will take place at 3 p.m. April 28 at the Paramount Theatre, and be followed by a panel discussion and a question-and-session moderated by Chris Phillips, editor and publisher of Backstreets magazine. Individual tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
Theaters that will show the new version on May 22 or on later dates in May are listed at asburyparkmovietickets.com. There are hundreds of locations, in North America as well as overseas, and more are being added daily, according to the web site.
