Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul have released the second single off their upcoming Summer of Sorcery album, a buoyant, ornately orchestrated retro-rock song titled “A World of Our Own.” Obvious influences on it are Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound and the “girl groups” that Spector and other producers worked with in the ’50s and ’60s.

You can listen to it below.

“Growing up, The Shirelles, The Chiffons, The Ronettes, The Crystals and The Shangri-La’s were really important to me,” said Steven Van Zandt in a press release. “This song is my take on the type of song I might have written for a Girl Group like one of those fantastic acts back in the day.”

Digital pre-orders of Summer of Sorcery, which will be released on May 3, will include free downloads of “A World of Our Own” and the album’s hard-rocking first single, “Superfly Terraplane.”

Little Steven & the Disciples of Soul will tour in Australia and New Zealand from April 13 to April 27, and have a record release show scheduled for the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, May 8 (visit ticketmaster.com). Subsequent shows are scheduled for Europe from May 16 to June 23, and in North America from July 2 to July 28.
