(Update: Click here for coverage of the June 27 event)
The Morris Museum in Morris Township will present an exhibition devoted to the work of famed rock photographer Bob Gruen, titled “Bob Gruen: Rock Seen,” from June 20 to Nov. 10. And it will also host two special events, co-sponsored by NJArts.net, in conjunction with it.
June 20 at 7 p.m., Gruen will discuss his life and career with me in a public conversation. And June 27 at 7:30 p.m., Southside Johnny and longtime Asbury Jukes keyboardist Jeff Kazee will present a rare duo show at the museum’s Bickford Theatre, after a short conversation between Southside and me.

The museum’s website describes the “Rock Seen” exhibition this way: “From Bob Dylan and John Lennon to Sid Vicious and Iggy Pop; from the Rolling Stones and the Ramones to the New York Dolls and Kiss; from Tina Turner and Yoko Ono to Debbie Harry and Madonna, these iconic photographs recount the public lives and private moments of music’s most famous artists.”
The exhibition will have a members reception from 6 to 7 p.m. on June 20, before the talk. After the talk, the exhibition will be open for any non-members who attend.
The exhibition also will be open before the Southside Johnny event on June 27.
Additionally, four films will be shown at the Bickford Theatre in conjunction with the exhibition:
June 21, 1 and 3 p.m.: “Rock & Roll Exposed: The Photography of Bob Gruen” (2011). (see trailer below)
July 31, 1 and 3 p.m.: “Ike and Tina Turner – On the Road, 1971-72” (2012). Gruen and his wife Nadya Beck co-directed this film.
Aug. 9, 1 and 3 p.m.: “New York Dolls: All Dolled Up” (2005). Gruen and Beck also co-directed this film, using footage of the band that they shot in the ’70s.
Aug. 20, 1 and 3 p.m.: “New York Dolls: Lookin’ Fine on Television” (2011). More rare, vintage footage of the legendary band, shot by Gruen and Beck.
