BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN

Bruce Springsteen has released the third and — in my opinion, at least — best song, so far, from his upcoming Western Stars album. It’s titled “Tucson Train,” and the accompanying video, featuring Springsteen performing the song along with guitarist Patti Scialfa, keyboardist Charlie Giordano and other musicians (including small horn and string sections), can be seen below.

The video was directed by longtime Springsteen associate Thom Zimny and, according to a press release, features many of the musicians who contributed to Western Stars.

The mid-tempo song is about a man who was “down and out” in San Francisco (“tired of the pills and the rain,” he sings), but has gone off and created a better life for himself, elsewhere. He is now eager to be reunited with the woman he left behind. Springsteen sings:

Hard work will clear your mind and body
The hard sun will burn out the pain
If they’re looking for me, tell ’em, buddy
I’m waiting down at the station
Just praying to the 5:15
I’ll wait all God’s creation
Just to show her a man can change
Now my baby’s coming in, on the Tucson train

The two previous singles from Western Stars were “Hello Sunshine” and “There Goes My Miracle.” The album will be released on June 14; visit brucespringsteen.lnk.to/WesternStars.
