Roy Orbison, Jr., president of Roy Orbison Music, said in a press release: “Dad jammed with Buddy in Lubbock, Texas and helped change music history by turning Buddy on to Norman Petty Studios; Buddy later returned the favor by recording two of Dad’s songs on his first Crickets album. How beyond cool and special that these two great friends now get to tour the world together.”
The album he is referring to is The ‘Chirping’ Crickets, from 1957, which featured “You’ve Got Love” and “An Empty Cup (and a Broken Date),” both co-written by Orbison.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Dream Tour — featuring remastered audio from both singer-guitarists, as well as a live band and backing vocalists — is currently scheduled to begin Sept. 19, in San Francisco, and end on Nov. 20, in Toronto.
