The current version of The Hollies — featuring drummer Bobby Elliott and guitarist Tony Hicks (both members of the band in its heyday) — will bring its first United States tour in 18 years to two New Jersey venues: The Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank, July 23, and the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, July 24.
Tickets will go on sale March 6 at 10 a.m., with presales beginning March 3 at 10 a.m.; visit mayoarts.org or thebasie.org.
Of the other current band members, bassist Ray Stiles has the longest tenure, having joined in 1986.
One of the biggest bands of the ’60s British Invasion, with hits such as “Bus Stop,” “Carrie-Anne” and “On a Carousel,” The Hollies continued to have big hits into the ’70s (“Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress,” “The Air That I Breathe”). They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 2010.
“We have very fond memories of our tours in the U.S. and how much the country means to us as a band,” said Hicks in a press release. “We look forward to seeing you all very soon.”
The tour will be titled The Road Is Long and is scheduled to include 14 shows, all in July.
