One of biggest concerts planned for New Jersey in 2020 definitely won’t be happening. Dead & Company has canceled its summer tour, which had been scheduled to include an Aug. 1 concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
The band posted a message to its Facebook page today saying:
“Due to the global coronavirus outbreak, and in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we sadly have no choice but to cancel the upcoming Dead & Company Summer 2020 Tour.
“The well-being and safety of the Deadhead community, venue workers and our touring family is of the utmost importance to us. We also want to provide you, the fans who’ve been hit hard financially during this difficult time with your money back. All tickets will be fully refunded at point of purchase.
“We are thankful for your love, your understanding and we look forward to the day when we can all be reunited. In the meantime, keep the faith and believe in the power of music.
“We will return. We will get by. We will survive.”
Former Grateful Dead singer-guitarist Bob Weir and drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart are joined in Dead & Company by singer-guitarist John Mayer, basseil Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The six started performing together under this name in 2015.
The band had never performed at MetLife Stadium before, and its tour had been scheduled to last from July 10 to Aug. 8.
