(UPDATE: O’Donovan has made the recording available for Bandcamp Friday, here: aoifeodonovan.bandcamp.com/album/aoife-plays-nebraska)
Aoife O’Donovan will perform Bruce Springsteen’s 1982 Nebraska in its entirety, online, May 9 at 9 p.m. (ET), with some of the proceeds going to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund. You can watch the stream and donate at found.ee/aoifeathome.
(May 9 Update: I’ve embedded her performance below, and highly recommend that anyone who is a fan of Nebraska watch it.)
O’Donovan — who has worked with the bands Crooked Still, I’m With Her and Sometymes Why, in addition to being a solo artist (and whose first name is pronounced EE-fa) — has performed Nebraska in its entirety once before, at a 2011 concert.
Dark, intense and stripped-down — the tracks were original intended as demos — Nebraska has won widespread acclaim from music critics but is, arguably, the least commercial album in Springsteen’s catalog.
Its 10 songs are:
“Nebraska”
“Atlantic City”
“Mansion on the Hill”
“Johnny 99”
“Highway Patrolman”
“State Trooper”
“Used Cars”
“Open All Night”
“My Father’s House”
“Reason to Believe”
