The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, which has cancelled all its live events during the pandemic, will delay the start of its next season until at least January. Concerts had been scheduled to resume in early October.

There are several options for those who have bought tickets to canceled performances. For details, visit njsymphony.org/ticketoptions

“The safety of our patrons, musicians and staff is always top of mind,” said NJSO president and CEO Gabriel van Aalst in a press release. “Our current goal for returning to the stage is now January 2021. We are hard at work on alternative ways to serve our communities in in the fall, and we plan to announce those initiatives shortly after Labor Day. Safety will guide our decisions, but we are committed to developing new and innovative ways to stay connected with you.”

The orchestra is currently offering free online content — including concert recordings and behind-the-scenes and educational content — via its NJSO at Home program. For information, visit njsymphony.org/njsoathome.

The orchestra is also offering online educational programs; for information, visit njsymphony.org/learn.

In September, as part of the NJSO at Home program, NJSO music director Xian Zhang will conduct NJSO musicians in a socially distanced, “virtual” performance of the final movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.

The NJSO is the resident orchestra of NJPAC in Newark and also performs regularly at the State Theatre in New Brunswick, the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, BergenPAC in Englewood, the Count Basie Center for the Arts in Red Bank and the Richardson Auditorium in Princeton.
